For more than a decade, Bud Laird has been a steady hand guiding the Orienteering USA Rogaining Committee. After 13 years of service as chairperson, Bud is stepping down, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, teamwork, and passion for the sport.

During his time at the helm, Bud helped nurture rogaining events across the country, supported countless volunteers, and ensured that participants had opportunities to challenge themselves outdoors. During Bud’s tenure as chair, USA hosted 2 World Rogaining Championships: 2014 in the Black Hills of South Dakota and 2023 in Lake Tahoe area of California.

The Orienteering USA Rogaining Committe would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to Bud for his tireless efforts. His commitment has inspired athletes, organizers, and newcomers alike. Bud would often choose to participate in events with novice partners in order to get them interested in the sport.

Thank you, Bud, for your years of service and for helping Rogaining grow stronger in the US. Your work has made a lasting difference, and the community celebrates you with deep appreciation.
